M2M would like to share the link to a well written article by Rebekah Vickery. Her August 2020 article is entitled, "Am I My Brother's Keeper? Recognizing White Privilege and Speaking Out Against Racism." Like the work of James Cone, she uses the imagery of Cain and Abel for a larger critique about the injustices committed against one group by another. Her careful evaluation of "White privilege," and her understanding of resistance to the concept itself, is worth sharing. Click here to continue reading.
Racial reckoning is not simply a box to tick - it's a change of heart. As we seek opportunities to identify the disproportionate social harms exacted against African descended women, this article is a welcome contribution to the discourse of mishpat or justice-making within religious spheres. As we seek ways to affirm that we are, indeed, our sisters' keeper, we are intentional about the power we have on the margins.
Please read the work and get in touch with her to provide your feedback. We hope you will like and share this marvelous work!
