Call for Papers - Sustainable Justice
Dear Research Network, Colleagues and Friends,
We have enclosed a call for papers on sustainable justice. In a time where many avenues created to achieve justice are now challenged, the conversation about making sustainable contributions to justice is relevant and timely. While the conference identifies "European women and feminism," we encourage you to consider if you: 1) are living in Europe as a woman, 2) have an interest in providing a perspective on the ways that you experience European women and feminism - even as an outsider. There are many opportunities to broaden this relevant conversation. We hope you will consider doing just that!
Please read below, click on hyper-links where appropriate, and share within your networks. Financial assistance is available.
Finally, we ask that you follow us on other social media including X (Formerly Twitter), Blue Sky, LinkedIn and Facebook. We will be adding YouTube and will phase out our X account.

How to achieve sustainable justice
The core message of many religions and social movements is justice as a work of love, a space of salvation / liberation and a message of justification. Justice is a task towards the neighbour and a vision of a divine space, which stimulates spiritual activists in equal measure. But what is just needs to be constantly discussed, adapted and defined. Gender justice and LGBTIQ*, racism and the legacy of colonialism, as well as the redefinition of the relationship between human beings, fellow creatures and nature are the subject of intense debates about justice and its sustainable establishment. What can be a religious, a feminist-theological and a feminist-spiritual response to these challenges from the perspective of different religions and denominations? What are the key tasks for the future?
Papers could be submitted on the following themes:
PoC, non-binary and trans families, as international studies show, are particularly affected by the consequences of the global climate catastrophe and experience blame for local events.
People in precarious situations are particularly vulnerable to environmental pollution and its impacts.
Justice as a sustainability goal includes empowerment
Concepts of justice in religions
Work on gender justice
What is the role of a European network of women working on issues of theology and religion in relation to sustainable justice?
What are our tasks in research, teaching, daily life, etc. in the face of these crises?
This call is for short papers (so-called mini-lectures of max. 20 minutes), presented in one of the conference languages: English, German or Spanish.
Call for Prayer/Ritual/Meditation
(Thursday to Sunday, 8:30-8:50 am)
Prayers, rituals or meditations offer participants a space for communal prayer and spiritual expression. They are intended to highlight different traditions and religions at the conference and to connect with the theme of sustainable justice in its many dimensions - gender, climate and social justice.
Proposals for a prayer/ritual/meditation can be submitted in the same way as proposals for a short paper (see below). Please indicate the religious tradition and language of your choice, as well as the topic you wish to address. The title of the document should clearly indicate that it is a proposal for a prayer/ritual/meditation and not an abstract for a short paper.
How to apply
Abstracts for papers or rituals will be collected from December 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
Abstracts should include a significant title and should be max. 500 words in length.
Papers should clearly present a question or argument relating to at least one of the above themes.
Submit your proposal
To submit your proposal, please fill out this PDF-form and upload it via this link (hessenbox).
Further questions about thematic issues as well as any technical question, can be adressed to Lea Chilian at lea.chilian@uzh.ch
