Salary: Salary and allowances are informed by the Church of England’s Lichfield Scale for Theological College Staff. As an indication, the rates for 2023-2024 were a salary/stipend of £28,900, housing component of £14,767, with other allowances including support for purchasing books and conference attendance. These figures will be subject to review for the 2024-2025 year.

Cranmer Hall, St John’s College seeks to appoint a person of outstanding academic, teaching and leadership ability as Lecturer in Biblical Studies and Preaching. Job Summary and Purpose
The role of Lecturer in Biblical Studies and Preaching is to deliver teaching and supervision at all levels of our academic programmes in the fields of Biblical Studies and Homiletics. Cranmer Hall retains a strong commitment to teaching biblical languages and it is hoped that the post-holder will also contribute to this. Alongside this, the role involves contributing to a research culture that both supports our students’ learning and serves the wider church. In addition, the post-holder will be a Tutor who will support the formation of students preparing for ordained ministry in the Church of England and recognised ministry in the Free Churches.
Key Responsibilities
To deliver teaching and supervision in the fields of Preaching and Biblical Studies at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including a biblical language at beginners and continuing level. This may include some teaching on evenings and weekends, with appropriate prior agreement and time off in lieu.
To take on oversight for an area of operational responsibility, on a par with other tutorial staff in College. The specific area will be agreed with the successful candidate, but is likely to include leading on development proposals and grant funding applications.
To tutor up to 10 ministers in training, supporting Christlike ministerial formation through regular tutorial meetings, pastoral support, and writing reports.
To support Cranmer Hall recruitment activities, both virtual events and in person.
To be active in research and able to make a significant contribution within both ecclesial and academic contexts.
To participate in the worshipping life of Cranmer Hall and St John’s College, leading and preaching as appropriate and agreed.
To serve as a prayerfully committed and constructive member of the Cranmer staff team.
To undertake all other duties appropriate to the grade and role, as directed by the Dean of Anglican Formation or the Warden.
