"Our experiences are valuable, and they can be used to transform our communities and our world." - Hortense Spillers
We are seeking solutions for independent scholars around the world. The information below are for resources within the UK and US - programs are often accessible via multiple countries. During this academic year, we are particularly interested in sharing grant information, the process for obtaining grants, grant cycles and a pilot program that we believe will make scholars from vulnerable communities more successful in obtaining grants.
Academic grants are primarily disbursed via a connection with a university. Though this may sound limiting, it doesn't have to be. With a university relationship, you are able to secure support from a cadre of your peers. Major universities often have a 90% or greater success rate with obtaining grants. The university will provide you with support for your academic grant application which includes content editing, budget preparation and final edits. Larger grants usually take 6-9 months to provide the award. The school can also share their database of grants and even provide samples of previously successful applications. These are all beneficial to you as a researcher.
Here is a list grants that are especially helpful for independent researchers in the UK. Some grants are set aside for collaboration across various geographies. Please read them to see which ones might be well suited to you.
