“When Black people are talked about the focus tends to be on Black men; and when women are talked about the focus tends to be on White women.”
― bell hooks, Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism
These words, by bell hooks, identifies the systemic erasure of Black women within typical, social systems. Black women should automatically have an allyship with White women who often read gender through their own racial bias. However, Blackness is often read through a gendered bias by Black men.
Do you have areas of your own life where you are systemically pushed to the margins? When do you feel erased - and how are you seeking visibility?
